If your website imports People Profiles from Stanford Profiles, you may have noticed a note on your Dashboard that reads, "People importer orphan action." This guide quickly explains what that is and what it means.
Importers can be set up to pull People Profiles onto your website. When people leave Stanford (or when they switch the visibility of their profiles from public to either private or Stanford-only), their Profile stops appearing in the importer. This uncoupling is considered an "orphan action." The unlinked profile will remain on your site, and you can choose what happens to it.
Action Types
You can choose what action to take when a profile is no longer there for the importer to pull. Your Dashboard will either say, "People importer orphan action: Do nothing" or "People importer orphan action: Unpublish."
Important note: The same action applies to all importers on your site.

Do Nothing
When a Person Profile stops appearing in the importer, "Do nothing" means no action will be taken. The Person Profile will remain published on your website unless someone manually takes another action, such as unpublishing it. Learn how to unpublish an individual profile, or unpublish multiple profiles at a time.
Unpublish
If this action is indicated on your Dashboard, then the importer will automatically unpublish the "orphaned" Person Profile.
