Components on a Private Page are nearly the same as Components on a regular Flexible Page. One key difference is the limited range of options to ensure privacy. This guide explains the components you can include on a Private Page. The styling options are generally the same as their Flexible Page counterparts except where noted.
A Private Text Area is the most commonly used Component and can be styled in a variety of ways. It is nearly identical to the Flexible Page Text Area, with the important omission of media and file upload.
Media is not used in a Private Text Area because doing so would allow your image, video, or file to become publicly viewable content. If someone shares the URL to the image or file, anyone could then access it.
This is the editor view of a Private Text Area. For more information about the various ways you can style your text, see our guide on Using the Text Area Editor.
The Private Text Area editing box, including the Text Area toolbar, is shown. It looks and functions exactly the same as a Text Area on a Flexible Page, with the exception of the ability to add media or document files.
Accordion
Accordions are expandable text areas commonly used for FAQs or other long sections of information where some of it can be collapsed. This Component functions exactly the same way as its Flexible Page counterpart. Learn how to format and style an Accordion.
Three Accordions. each with a different style: default, secondary, and light. The first accordion includes an Expand All button.
Color Band
Color Bands are section heading text (heading 2) with a color background. They can contain up to 3 elements: a title is always required, and additional text and/or a link can also be included. Color Bands behave the same way on Flexible and Private Pages.
Three different iterations of Color Bands. The first includes a title, additional text, and link on a gray background. The second provides an example of a color band with only a title and link on a gray background. The third is a color band with title and additional text on a cardinal background.
Four examples of Color Bands are shown to demonstrate the color options available. Each option contains only a title. The bands are shown in the default color, cardinal, gray, and light, respectively.
Curriculum Map
Many academic units like to include an example of how students can plan their courses and requirements. Curriculum Maps allow web editors to create these visual maps directly on the site. Additional information, including examples, can be found in the Curriculum Maps guide.
Private Collection
A Private Collection is a container for components that allows them to be displayed side by side. It is especially useful for displaying Postcards as a grid or allowing your page to be broken into two, three, or four columns. This Component functions the same way as its flexible page counterpart. Explore Collections in depth.
Editing module of a Collection. From top to bottom, the input fields are: title settings, title, items per row, background color, raised cards toggle, uniform height toggle, and a section to add components such as Postcards, Spotlights, Text Areas, and more.
Private Files
To ensure you don't accidentally make something publicly available that shouldn't be, you cannot upload document files in a Private Text Area. This is because someone could share the URL to the file or image, and anyone could then access it. To avoid this issue, upload the files using the Private File upload option.

Allowable File Types
You can upload multiple files in a Private File Component. Files can be up to 10MB in size, and must be one of the following types: pdf, txt, rtf, doc, docx, ppt, pptx, xls, or xlsx.
Best Practices
While you can upload private files to your website, we generally recommend managing permissions via Google Drive. We encourage you to create a fully separate Shared Drive Folder with only your private intranet documents. At the folder level, you can set permissions to specific users or a particular workgroup.
Create a separate Google Shared Drive for private files. Keep this Shared Drive separate from other Shared Drives or Folders that you use for internal documents that are not meant to be shared.
Postcard
Postcards are a flexible way to highlight information on your page. You can customize them by adding up to four elements: one media item, a title, body text, and a link. Postcards can be added to your page individually, or they can be added as part of a Private Collection.
Examples of the 4 postcard styles. The top row displays one of each of the four styles (vertical, horizontal, vertical button, and vertical linked, respectively) as they appear without the raised card look. The second row is the exact same, but with raised card styling.
Important Note About Media in Postcards on Private Pages
Media - both images and videos - added to a Postcard on a Private Page can unintentionally become public. If someone shares the URL to the image or file, anyone could then access it. We recommend either not including media on Private Page Postcards, or limiting the media usage to anything that can be shared publicly.
Spotlight(s)
Spotlight(s) can include text and an image or images in a colored box. Spotlights can be tall or short and their image(s) can be right or left aligned and framed or expanded. They can also include a link, which appears as a secondary button. You can choose if the background color should be the default color determined by your site's theme and color palette, or gray. Explore Spotlights(s).

Important Note About Media in Spotlights on Private Pages
Media - both images and videos - added to a Spotlight on a Private Page can unintentionally become public. If someone shares the URL to the image or file, anyone could then access it. We recommend either not including media on Private Page Spotlights, or limiting the media usage to anything that can be shared publicly.
Vertical Timeline
This Component presents information in a step-by-step list format. It is a great visual aid for laying out multi-step processes. Each step or item will have a title, plus an optional subtitle and body content. Learn about Vertical Timelines.

All of the components above should already exist on your website. If you see something referenced here that isn't showing up on your site, reach out to support.
