What's New in HandsOn

What's New in HandsOn

Major changes relative to HandSOn Classic

  • New look and feel!

A&P File module

  • This is a brand new module to assist in preparing A&P Forms for faculty appointments and promotions. Previously, this process has been handled mainly using email attachments.

Faculty module

  • We now track academic appointments, administrative appointments, and courtesy appointments separately, with separate date tracking for each type of appointment. This should simplify workflows when one appointment starts or ends without impacting the others.
  • Endowed chair tracking now includes additional features, such as designated chairs and awards with multiple chair slots.
  • Department and program staff can be granted access to record faculty awards (fellowships, medals, prizes, etc.)
  • Spouse information can be linked to a Faculty record. This should avoid dual-entry in scenarios where the spouse is another faculty member. Legacy entries may need to be cleaned up still.

Funding Commitment module

  • Commitments can now have multiple recipients; each line item has one recipient.
  • Commitments must have at least one attachment file tagged as a "data source", such as a memo, offer letter, retention letter, or other file that serves as the primary source document for the commitment.
  • Department users have increased access to view and track commitments.
  • Departments can assign an approver (usually a DFO) for commitments which reference PTAs they manage.
  • Approvers can delegate their approval access to another user. This should be useful for vacations, leaves, etc.

Search Authorization module

  • Department users have increased access to view and track search authorizations.

Search Request module

  • Search Requests are now built directly into Handson.
  • Department users now have access to review requests from prior years.

Recruitment module

  • Additional recruitment status options related to faculty appointment file.
  • Option for HSDO team to blank out template cost projections.

Retention module

  • New look and feel

Reporting

  • We have retired most of the PDF-based reports, and will typically prefer spreadsheet-based reports where possible in the future.

Salary Setting module

  • At the time of initial launch, we have not yet built a Salary Setting module for the new system. Instead, we will continue to send faculty record updates to HandsOn Classic so that we can run salary setting there.
